  • In an isotonic solution, a red blood cell will not experience any net water movement.
  • There won't be a net migration of water towards the solution or the cell since the concentration of the solute and water are identical both within and outside the cell.
  • An animal or plant cell submerged in a hypertonic solution shrinks as a result of water loss ( water moves from a higher concentration inside the cell to a lower concentration outside ). 
  • hence the cells  remain intact causing the solution to be opaque.
