In general, the scalar multiple of k times u, is this:

[tex]k\vec u = k(ux, uy)=(Kux,Kuy)[/tex]

So, here's how we find [tex]3\vec v[/tex]

[tex]3\vec v = 3 * (2,4) = (3*2,3*4) = (6,12) [/tex]

The answer is (6,12).
