If you have two $1 bills, then you add 1 + 1 to get $2.
A quarter is $0.25. If you have 3 quarters, you add up 0.25, 3 times, or you can multiply it by 3.
0.25 x 3 = 0.75
Add $0.75 to $2 to get $2.75 in total.
