One method to solve is to rewrite 9 as a power of 3 and then equate exponents to solve for x

3^x = 9^(x+2)
3^x = (3^2)^(x+2)
3^x = 3^(2(x+2))
x = 2(x+2) <<-- bases are equal, so exponents must be equal
x = 2x+4
x-2x = 4
-x = 4
x = -4

Answer: x = -4
