If three people had three cookies how many ways can they distribute the cookie

The first cookie can be distributed in 3 ways to the first person.
The second cookie can be distributed in 2 ways to the second person.
There is only one way to give the last cookie to the third person.

Total number of ways  = 3*2*1 = 3! = 6
