how do polypeptides become functional enzymes

The primary structure of a protein is determined by amino acid sequence. Polyptide must be modified before it becomes fully functional in such a way that, amino acids are modified through attaching lipids, sugars, or phosphate groups. These amino acids can either be removed or divided/joined.
